Upon Leaving Student Teaching
I cannot believe that my last day at PS 340 has come. After years of anticipation, student teaching is finally over. Instead of feeling relieved, I am sad. This has been the most amazing learning experience I have ever endured. I learned how to be a teacher, a co-worker, a role model, and I have learned about myself. I have fallen in love with teaching and I am sad to leave the people I have formed relationships with in this school. I have become a part of the PS 340 community and I felt so comfortable at the school. I was sad to leave the staff and especially the students. I could not be more grateful for what they have all done for me. There was no way I could have prepared for this experience, it more than exceeded my expectations. It was very difficult to leave. As one of my students refused to let me go from a hug, I realized that I had made a difference in someone’s life. I was not only able to experience what it is like to be an effective teacher, but also the rewards of teaching.
As I walked through the hallways for the last time, I realized how fortunate I was to teach in this school. It is not common to find a school that so clearly has such a welcoming and safe community. The staff works so well together and puts hours of work into constantly improving their schools programs and building. The students are extremely friendly and I rarely saw instances of bullying or teasing. The schools positive community extends to the students, teachers and staff, parents, and community.
Although I am sad to leave student teaching, I am excited to begin teaching in my own classroom. I wish I could start right away! This experience has made me confident and excited to become a part of a new school. If I was able to become such a part of this school in a couple months, I cannot wait to begin teaching full time. I now embark on a new chapter of my life with a strong foundation, an open mind, and thirst to improve myself as a teacher.
